Apple has finally unveiled the new iPhone 3G S at WWDC 2009. The “S” stands for Speed. This is by far the fastest iPhone but Apple refused to say what is the processor chip. Anyway, as long as the performance is fast, nobody really cares what is the chip. Here are some of the key features of the new iPhone 3G S.
Video recording – This is the most important feature that I find it lacking in the previous model. You can record video in 30 fps VGA mode good enough to take any candid video. You can even edit it on the iPhone.
Improved camera – It has a 3 megapixel camera compared to the previous 2 megapixel camera. Not something to brag about as many phones today have 5 megapixel camera. But at least there is improvement.
Voice control – This is really a cool feature. It can recognize the names in your Contacts and knows the music on your iPod. So if you want to place a call or play a song, all you have to do is ask. You can view the guided tour for the demo.
Built-in compass – It has a digital built-in compass. Together with the GPS map, it can rotate maps to always match the direction you’re facing.
With the iPhone OS 3.0 available on 17 June, the new iPhone will have MMS, Cut Copy & Paste, Spotlight search, landscape keyboard, etc. It really has all the features that I am looking for. The latest iPhone will come with 16 GB or 32 GB option. Singapore iPhone fans can expect to buy the latest iPhone 3G S in July.
If SingTel continues to be the exclusive iPhone distributor, I will definitely ditch my current mobile phone operator and switch to SingTel when my contract expires.
