Line2 has released a iPhone application in US Apple App store that can add a second number to your iPhone. It allows you to call and receive phone call using a different mobile number via WiFi or Data package. You can have caller ID, call waiting, call transfer and even up to 20 people call conferencing. However, you cannot do SMS. The user interface is very similar to iPhone native interface.
It is free trial for 30 days and after that it is US$14.95 per month for unlimited call within US and Canada. With this application, you can switch to a lower price plan and save money on your phone bill. Unfortunately, it is not available in Singapore yet.

I believe most of the iPhone fans have connected your iPhone/laptop to Wireless@SG before. The troublesome part is that you need to enter your username and password. Also, the tendency of dropping the connection is quite high.
Recently, IDA has released the new Wireless@SGx which allow you to have seamless and secured automatic connection. However, you need to install the Wireless@SG Connect on your iPhone/laptop and configure it. For iPhone, there are three Wireless@SG Connect iPhone applications from the three Wireless@SG operators, namely SingTel, M1 and iCELL. After installing, you need to do a one-time configuration to create a profile with your domain, username and password. Once configured, as long as you are in the vicinity of the Wireless@SGx hotspots, your iPhone will be automatically connected to the network.
Although the data usage price has significantly reduced, it is definitely one way to reduce the data usage.

If you like to use Instant Messaging (IM) on iPhone, and you have many accounts like Google Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger, I have a good news for you. Instead of using all the different IM software on your iPhone, you can combine them into one. The answer to this is Trillian Astra for iPhone.
Currently, Trillian Astra for iPhone is still in its beta but the reviews from the pilot testers are encouraging. I am a user for the Trillian Astra for Windows (Too bad, the Trillian Astra for Mac OS X is also beta) for many months and I really love it. It is really the Ultimate IM for Windows. First of all, you can connect to the different IM I mentioned above. I have some friends who prefer to use one over the others. With Trillian Astra, I can chat with all my friends using the same software. Secondly, I can also connect to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Any new tweet will show up like Aero glass transparent window. It will also show any new emails in my inbox. Lastly, I can send files, draw pictures, show the past chat history, and almost all the features you need for IM. If you upgrade to the Pro version, there are even more features like full screen video. By the way, did I mention that the basic version is FREE!
So, just wait for the release of Trillian Astra for iPhone.

Skype has just released a version that support iPhone. It can be downloaded from iPhone App Store for free. You can make free Skype-to-Skype calls from any WiFi zone. However, Skype calling is not possible via the iPhone. Skype Chat feature is supported on WiFi and most 3G network though data usage charges apply. The Skype application must be started and sign in first before you can receive incoming Skype calls and chats.
For all iPhone fans, this is an application that you must download. In this economic crisis, it can definitely help you to save some money.
